COSTA RICAN STUDENTS DO EXCELLENT WORK IN BIOLOGY OLYMPIAD.

With  two gold medals and one silver and three students who represented the country at the VI Iberoamerican Olympiad Cascacaís, Portugal, and leave him at the top, among various countries. 
 Ariel Melendez, a Scientific College student from San Ramon, and Rodson Corrales, a student from Scientific College Bilingual Reina de los Angeles, in South San Jose, won the gold medal. For its part, Erick Rojas, a student from Los Angeles College , also in the capital, won the silver medal.

This Olympiad took place from Sept 2nd  to September 8th 2012. These three youths, were measured with the best of the Latin American region, in two theoretical tests and three proof laboratory ecology, botany and molecular genetics.
They competed against countries with a longer tradition in Olympics such as Mexico, Spain, Brazil and Colombia.
With a year of preparation from that selected in their schools, go through a regional competition and subsequently a national Olympiad. The most outstanding in national tournaments are selected to represent the country.
Nevertheless, this achievement was not easy due to that there were many obstacles to reach just because this year they did not have the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, due to budget reductions.
But participation was made possible by the National Council of Rectors (CONARE). Next year is expected to have government support in order to participate in the International Olympiad in Switzerland and the Iberoamerican Olympiad in Argentina.
