It
borders on the North with Nicaragua, on the East with the province of
Alajuela, to the South with Puntarenas and to the West with the
magnificent Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Liberia city.
Guanacaste's
geography is a mix of plains and mountainous terrain along the
Guanacaste Mountain Range and some higher altitudes in the Nicoya
Peninsula.
Guanacaste's
great economic potential is based on tourism and real estate
development due to its beautiful beaches and ideal warm climate. Costa
Rica's second international airport, Daniel Oduber International
Airport, is strategically located only minutes away from Liberia and
from the main coastal development clusters. At the present time
Guanacaste is experiencing an intense tourist and real estate boom and
has the highest rate of development of all Central America.
GUANACASTE'S ATTRACTIONS
Guanacaste
boasts many of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. Among the best
known are the beaches of the Gulf of Papagayo such as Playa Hermosa,
Ocotal, Playas del Coco, and Playa Panama. Other outstanding beaches
are Playa Conchal, Playa Grande de Tamarindo, Flamingo, Avellanas,
Samara, Nosara, and Carrillo, to name a few.
It
also has beautiful parks such as Guanacaste National Park, Rincon de la
Vieja National Park, Palo Verde National Park, Santa Rosa National
Park, Tenorio Volcano National Park and, also, several wildlife reserves
and protected areas.

diving, surfing or sport fishing, canopy tours, thermal waters,
rafting, visits to butterfly farms, orchid nurseries, snake farms, frog

are a large number accommodations ranging from simple "cabinas"
(cabins) to luxurious hotels and vacation housing developments for every
taste. There are also a great number of bars, restaurants, four golf
courses, a couple of luxury marinas, souvenir shops, casinos, spas, and
shopping centers available.
Costa
Rican Traditions: In Guanacaste you can partake of and enjoy many Costa
Rican traditions such as the music of the "marimba", folkloric dances,
typical food and the cowboy culture. Some of the most famous "fiestas"
of the province of Guanacaste are the Popular Fiestas in Santa Cruz in
January and toes of Playas del Coco in February as well as the Civic
Fiestas of Liberia in February and July. At these events you can enjoy
the dances, games, food, and sports typical of the region.
