Japan donates 9 million dollars to protect preserved areas in Costa Rica


Costa DevelopersThe Government of Japan donated nine million dollars for the protection of its properties where national parks are located in Costa Rica and to combat forest land fires, an official source said.
State Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT) and the Ministry of environment and energy (Minae) announced the donation in a statement and said that the money will be used for “the protection of national parks and protected wild land”. “In addition to improving the conditions of the different areas of conservation and national parks, will invest resources in the acquisition of computer tip, primarily to combat forest fires,” the bulletin said.
Among others, Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific coast and one of the most visited in the country, where will be invested in the construction of trails and the improvement of various services for tourists will benefit.
Money will also go to the shelter life Silvestre Isla San Lucas (Pacific) where an information and environmental education centre will be developed and built, restored access and trails, among other infrastructure works. CEO of the ICT, Juan Carlos Bourbon “tourism should represent the vehicle par excellence for the sustainable development of the country, human well-being and the preservation of our natural resources, so we welcome this substantial investment from the Japanese Government,” said in the statement.
Costa Rica, which houses the 4.5% of the world’s biodiversity, remains under protection nearly 30% of its land in national parks and different types of properties protected.
Also some recent studies by the by University of Alberta Canada and the National Fund for Forest Financing (FONAFIFO) revealed more than half of Costa Rica’s territory is covered by forest.
The Central Pacific is the most visited region by international and national tourists in Costa Rica, and also the most developed and urbanized one. Not only Manuel Antonio National Park but as well Jaco and Herradura are three of the favorite destinations for vacationing and real estate investment in Costa Rica, therefore it is a major concern of the national and local authorities to preserve one of its most valuable natural environments.
Costa Rica was visited last year by 2.19 million tourists, the highest number in the history of this nation of 4.3 million inhabitants, and which resulted in a growth of 4.6% compared with 2.1 million in 2010.
Also the Costa Rican government intensifies its actions towards maintaining continued growth that the national tourist industry experienced in the past 12 months. The Government’s efforts are concentrated to exceed the number of tourists who visited the country in 2011, year which recorded the leading increase in four years.
